John Lennon’s Paperback Guitar Recently Sold For Over $500,000

If you’re a big fan of the Beatles, this was your chance at owning some really exclusive memorabilia. This piece of rock and roll history was just sold recently.

The guitar that was just recently sold was John Lennon’s guitar that was used on the song “Paperback Writer”. It fetched a whopping $530,000, $70,000 short of what the reserve was set at. David Birch previously owned the instrument for quite a while.

Instead of putting it up for auction again, Birch decided to sell it privately to Jim Irsay, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts. Irsay hired a vintage guitar specialist to check it out, and after getting the go-ahead, he bought the guitar.

Irsay told the Rolling Stone he justified the hefty price tag because it was “a significant piece of history” and “instruments like this rarely become available, so anything John Lennon used is some of the most important historical musical archives that exist on the planet”.

“Paperback Writer” was a single that was recorded during the sessions of the revolver album, but never actually made the cut. The song was later released and made its way to the top of the charts in the UK and America.
